Position Summary
The Science, Computing and Engineering Pathway at Portland Community College is looking for a Web and Database Design Instructor and a Data Communications and Hardware Instructor, both primarily at the Sylvania Campus scheduled to begin Fall 2023.

These instructors will prepare PCC’s students for jobs at the cutting edge of technology through: the development of our CIS program, curriculum development, course instruction, and partnerships with local industry for internships and advisory boards, as well as other tasks as assigned. The positions represent an outstanding opportunity to bring your expertise to lead and grow this vital academic program and to work closely with and mentor students. In your application material, please clearly address your experience with the following Success Criteria as well as the Instructor Qualifications.

Has a passion for and/or recent experience with college-level teaching or adult training and strives for teaching excellence
Has experience with a broad range of IT topics and the willingness to teach and improve our curriculum across the courses the CIS department offers
Has strong oral and written skills. Experience navigating personal change to adapt to different audiences with different communication styles and cultural contexts. Able to communicate effectively both in the classroom and when working with colleagues.
Experience developing academic programs through curriculum development and pedagogical innovation. Stays up to date in recent developments in IT as well as the ethical and cultural context in which IT operates. Willing to uncover and address systemic bias in our department and in PCC as a whole.
Web Design / Database

Has Web and Database design and implementation experience in an Information Systems environment with demonstrated industry connections and ability to stay current with changing technologies and community support needs:
· Full stack development

· HTML, CSS, PHP, Relational and non-relational database development, JavaScript

· UI/UX Design

Data Communications / Hardware

Has applied experience with the following technologies in an Information Systems environment with demonstrated industry connections and ability to stay current with changing technologies and community support needs:
· Data communications and networking technologies

· Network architecture, design and security

· Routing, switching, and wireless technologies

· Virtualization and cloud computing

Instructor Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum Instructor qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or STEM-related bachelor’s degree AND

· Experience: 4 years full-time equivalent non-teaching industry experience in the field.


· Education: Associate’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or STEM-related bachelor’s degree AND

· Experience: 8 years full-time equivalent non-teaching industry experience in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant recent industry or education/teaching experience
Starting Salary Expectations
Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($64,562) and Step 3 ($68,491) based on related experience, per PCC’s collective bargaining agreement.

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee’s Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

Paid Leave:

1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
21 hours of additional personal leave per year
4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.
